Listing Title:VINTAGE 10" JAZZ LOT: Modern Jazz Quartet (Prestige RVG) & Jay and Kai Quintet (Columbia 6-Eye)
Condition: Used - Acceptable
Description:
Up for purchase is a lot of two classic, mid-1950s 10-inch mono jazz pressings. Both of these discs feature highly desirable early label variations and are excellent "player copies" for those looking to experience the authentic warmth of mid-century jazz masters.
Please read the specific collector's notes and condition grades for each record below carefully before purchasing.
Item 1: The Modern Jazz Quartet
Label: Prestige Records (PRLP 170)
Format: 10-inch, Mono
Release Era: Mid-1950s
Collector’s Info:
This is an early pressing featuring the highly collectible yellow and black "fireworks" label with the "446 W. 50th St., N.Y.C." address. Most importantly for audiophiles, the deadwax features the hand-etched "RVG" initials, indicating this was mastered by the legendary recording engineer Rudy Van Gelder. His masters are highly sought after for their unparalleled dynamic range and presence.
Condition Notes:
Vinyl: [VG]. The vinyl retains a nice gloss with some light surface marks consistent with age.
Jacket: [G+]. The original cardboard jacket is included but shows heavy wear. There is significant edge wear, age discoloration, and old tape applied across the top seam.
Item 2: The Jay and Kai Quintet (J.J. Johnson and Kai Winding)
Label: Columbia Records (CL 2573)
Format: 10-inch, Mono
Release Era:Mid-1950s
Collector’s Info:
A fantastic piece of mid-century trombone jazz. This pressing features the iconic, deep groove, red and black Columbia "6-eye" label. The deep groove pressing ring combined with the 6-eye label design is a strong indicator of an early, high-quality Columbia pressing.
Condition Notes:
Vinyl:[VG]. Visually decent with typical light scuffs from vintage play.
Jacket: Generic Sleeve Only. Please note that this record does not come with its original Columbia jacket. It will be shipped securely in a plain sleeve.
Shipping & Handling:
Records will be packed securely in a proper LP mailer with the records removed from their jackets (where applicable) to prevent seam splits during transit. Ships via USPS Media Mail.
