Per Wikipedia, 10,000 Maniacs is an American alternative rock band founded in 1981. They have released nine studio albums, six EPs, and five live albums. They achieved their most significant success between 1987 and 1993, when they released four albums that charted in the top 50 in the US: In My Tribe (1987), Blind Man's Zoo (1989), Our Time In Eden (1992), and the live album MTV Unplugged (1993). After the recording (but before the release) of MTV Unplugged, original lead singer and songwriter Natalie Merchant left the band to pursue a solo career, while the remaining members continued the band. In My Tribe is the third studio album from the group. Released on July 27, 1987, by Elektra Records, it was their second major-label album and their first to achieve large-scale success. John Lombardo, Natalie Merchant's songwriting partner on previous albums, had left the band in 1986, and In My Tribe saw Merchant begin to collaborate with the other members of the band, most notably with Rob Buck. In a contemporary review, Rolling Stone's J. D. Considine wrote that "with In My Tribe, the group has finally come into maturity. It isn't simply that the songs are richer and more resonant this time around; the band itself seems to have grown." In 1989, Rolling Stone ranked the album number sixty-five on their list of the 100 greatest albums of the 1980s, summing it up as "a poetic, heartfelt message about social concerns such as alcoholism, child abuse and illiteracy." The album up for sale is a 1987 release on the Elektra record label and licensed to Columbia House as a "club edition". This recording was manufactured at Columbia's Carrollton pressing facility. It consists of 12 tracks, including the band's recording of Cat Stevens' "Peace Train" that was removed from the U.S. CD and cassette versions of the album, after comments made by Stevens (by then a Muslim convert, known as Yusuf Islam) that were perceived to be supportive of the fatwa on Salman Rushdie. The run time of this recording is 46+ minutes. The cover is VG+ condition with only a mild hint of disc ring wear on the back cover. Both covers retain their glossiness and photos, artwork and graphics are sharp and show no sign of discoloration. The back cover contains track listings and production notes along with B&W photos. The paper inner sleeve is original and intact. However, the sleeve is generic in nature with no photos or graphics. The recording has been cleaned and tested using Audacity and is free of "skips". There is very little to no background noise. However, on testing, I detected a single mild "click" on side 2, track 1 (Peace Train) that did not interfere with the music. The sound is strong, clean and crisp. The disc surfaces show no sign of significant wear and there are no scratches or scuffs. The labels are clean and intact. I am the original owner of this recording and attest to its limited number of plays (less than five). By Goldmine standards of grading records, this album would rate EX and will satisfy any "audiophile" collector.
