Antonio PAOLI (1871 – 1946)

Judging from remarks by artist who sang with him ( as quoted in the 1972 article on Paoli by Jesus M. Lopez in The Record collector, Vol. XXII, Nos. 1-2) Paoli must have been the great dramatic tenor of his era. “Paoli was one of the greatest dramatic tenors in the world of his time and of this time too “ (H. Lazaro ) .  “Paoli was one pf the greatest singing actors I have ever seen in my life” ( Piccaluga) “I sang with Paoli several times. His high notes….sounded so loud that to sing with him you had to know the music well, as otherwise you had ni chance to hear the orchestra ( Manfredo Polverosi) “Let me tell you that during my long life I have not heard a better Otello than his and believe me I have heard a lot of Otellos” (Elvira de Hidalgo)

E Excellent. Virtually no trace of groove wear with only minimal traces of use and handling.

E – An above average record .

E = Record with slight degree if groove wear, but not enough to seriously detract from its audio quality.

V + + Obviously well played but still enjoyable. Noticeable greying in the grooves

V + Very well worn but listenable Expect the surface noise to be significant. There may be stressed grooves.

V Stressed grooves more pronounced.

I try to be conservative on grading and list some important and also unknown Italian singers.
