Notes:   Caruso recorded this aria for Victor three times.  The first was on Victor 85022, recorded in February 1904 on matrix C-997 with piano acc. and no recitative.  The third was recorded in March, 1908 on matrix C-3180-3 and issued on Victor 88127 with orchestra acc and included the recitative.  The second was never released, and that is the recording described here.  It was recorded on March 13, 1906 on matrix C-3180-1 and assigned catalog number 88025.  Test copies exist, but it was never commercially issued.  The recording has an orchestra acc. but it does not include the recitative.  RCA later issued a dubbed version, but this is a private pressing made from the original master.  A most unique addition to your Caruso collection.

We are currently offering a selection of mostly unissued classical vocal 78s on very limited custom pressings.  The records are pressed from the original masters on modern vinyl (similar to an LP) and are all in mint condition.  The sound is exceptional, as there is no groove wear or defects of any kind.  They all have white unprinted labels with a photocopy insert describing the selection.  Sleeves are plain white paper with the matrix or catalog number stamped in the corner.  Many of these selections have never been issued in any form.  Here is an opportunity to acquire some truly unique records for your collection.  We will be listing 1 or 2 records per day from this collection - they are designated with a "v" suffix after the inventory number.  Check our listings frequently and be sure to add us to your favorites list.  - you never know what may turn up!
