WHAT THIS IS: This is a USED record. It is NOT perfect. Maybe Acceptable or Great to you.

I DO NOT WANT TO SELL YOU A BAD RECORD! Yet it could happen. All records crackle & pop. Some less or more than others... I have seen records with surfaces that look ugly & sound flawless. I have seen/heard record surfaces that look NEW & they sound AWFUL & even SKIP. Covers might be worn in a way I missed in the description.

ANSWER: Yes briefly it sounds very good to me even on the quiet songs & needle set down. I took good care of this one. It has also been in a bag for many years & the cover art is great.

FACT: The ONLY way to know if a record sounds good (or not) is sitting there, watching it, the needle, looking at meters & fiddling with knobs & listening carefully to the entire vinyl in Real Time. Completely undistracted. I did not have that time. Please ask me if you want me to go listen this to this one, before you bid or buy. I'd be glad to check it out for you & give you an update on this record if I can.

COUNTRY / YEAR(s): MADE IN ENGLAND on disc & sleeve. 1970 (1973*). This must be a 2nd printing.

GENRE: Progressive.

NOTES: 1st LP.

In 1973 the spiral label had the conversion to the so-called UFO label sketched by Roger Dean ("Spaceship Vertigo"). The end of the Swirl phase introduced the commercialization of the label described before.

So don't let other ebay sellers confuse you. A Roger Dean label is in 1973. A true 1st is the white & black spiral.

ALSO. The cover art here is later used for the release of THREE FRIENDS in the USA.

Gentle Giant was a British progressive rock band active between 1970 and 1980. The band was notable for the particular complexity and sophistication of its musical material and for the diverse musical skills of its members (all of whom, bar the first two drummers, were accomplished multi-instrumentalists).

Gentle Giant's music was considered complex even by progressive rock standards, drawing on a broad swathe of music including folk, soul, jazz and classical music. Unlike many of their progressive rock contemporaries, their "classical" influences ranged beyond the Romantic and incorporated mediaeval, baroque, and modernist chamber music elements. The band also had a taste for broad themes for their lyrics, drawing inspiration not only from personal events but from philosophy and the works of both François Rabelais and R. D. Laing.

(INNER) SLEEVE CONDITION: Plastic coated inner sleeve help protect the vinyl very well. But the paper is very aged & has turned brown

SURFACE CONDITION: This sounds really great to me.

Records I have cleaned in OVER 40 YEARS + have always sounded & looked worse off, years later. I will use an air-cleaner or clean cloth before I send it.
