Description

Here is a early recording with a brass grommet. It is performed by George J. Gaskin, who is truly one of the great pioneers of recording. This recording made 1901-02 is at the near end of his career. The announcement is strange as there is no mention of company?? It may have been at the time Columbia was not sure about what their records would be called or just an omission. Also this could have been recorded in Jan or Feb of 1902 when Victor had taken over the Globe Company who stamped Columbia's records and they were not sure what their records would be called, due to the hijacking by Victor. Hardly anyone said Columbia more on record in the early days than Gaskin, so it does puzzle me. This record is 114 years old and shows its age. It has rubs and scratches but plays all the way through.  A rather historic recording by a most historic recording artist.   The story of the rose...Has the famous chorus... Heart of my heart i love you, ..etc.
