Description
Columbia Records circa 1901-1904
Offered is one of the great elusive recorded gems of Columbia Records earliest catalog, the fabled and legendary experimental 14" 60rpm announced flat disc record. This is catalog#270 of Sousa's Washington Post March [Two Step] as played by The Columbia Orchestra
This is an exceptionally rare museum piece stated to be reproduced at 60rpm. However, it plays perfectly and beautifully at 78rpm. The record is announced as Sousa's Washington Post March as played by The Columbia Orchestra.
I have played this record and am grading it as E-/V+. This is an exceptional copy for its rarity.
Note, this is more than an exceptional historical disc.
Although abandoned in format size by 1905, the 14" Columbia was... the first long play record...... and set in motion the interest in experimentation for the longer playing speeds that flowered with Victor Records 33rpm transcription experiments of 1930-32
It is with great honor and pleasure that I offer this outstanding historic recorded gem of Antique Phonograph and Recorded Sound history
* Please contact me with any questions. As a musician historian/archivist and professional dealer, this disc will be packaged with utmost quality of care for transport world wide*
Note, I have added the World War II AFRS 16" transcription for visual comparison with this featured 14" Columbia treasure.
