Valls, Giovanni (Juan), Tenor, * 1872 in der spanischen Provinz Katalanien, † 1943; er war Schüler von Juan Goula in Barcelona und sang in der ersten Dekade unseres Jahrhunderts erfolgreich an italienischen und spanischen Opernhäusern, wobei er in Spanien unter dem Namen Juan Valls auftrat. So war er u.a. 1903 am Teatro Regio Parma als Alvaro in Verdis »La forza del destino« als Partner der berühmten Eugenia Burzio anzutreffen. 1906 sang er am gleichen Theater in der Premiere der Oper »Siberia« von Giordano. 1911 sollte er an der Oper von Havanna den Radames in »Aida« singen, konnte dies aber wegen einer plötzlichen Erkrankung nicht durchführen. Er scheint später kaum noch aufgetreten zu sein.
Schallplatten: Der Künstler erscheint als Partner der berühmten Celestina Boninsegna auf HMV-Platten von 1904 in Duetten aus »Aida« und »Il Trovatore«. Zur gleichen Zeit kamen auf dieser Marke auch Solo- Aufnahmen heraus mit Arien aus »La forza del destino«, »Aida«, »Il Trovatore«, »Othello« von Verdi und »Jone« von Petrella. Einige Jahre später sang er Aufnahmen für Columbia, darunter ein Duett aus »Aida« mit Gina Ciaparelli.
Boninsegna, Celestina, Sopran, * 26.2.1877 Reggio Emilia, å 14.2.1947 Mailand. Sie sang bereits mit 15 Jahren bei einer Opernauff?hrung in Reggio Emilia die Norina im ?Don Pasquale½ dann Studium am Liceo Rossini in Pesaro bei Virginia Boccabadati. 1897 deb?tierte siein Bari als Marguerite im ?Faust½ von Gounod. 1899 offizielles B?hnendeb?t am Stadttheater von Piacenza in Goldmarks ?K÷nigin von Saba½. Sie gastierte dann an den Theatern von Piacenza und Cremona. Am 17.1.1901 sang sie in einer der sechs gleichzeitigen Urauff?hrungen von Mascagnis ?Le Maschere½ am Teatro Costanzi Rom die Partie der Rosaura. 1901 h÷rte man sie am Teatro Dal Verme in Mailand in der Titelrolle der Oper ?Jone½ von E. Petrella. Sie sang dann 1903 am Teatro Regio in Parma, 1904-05 an der Mail?nder Scala als Aida erfolgreich, 1906 am Teatro Real Madrid. 1906-07 an der Metropolitan Oper New York engagiert, wo sie als Aida mit Enrico Caruso als Partner deb?tierte. Sie trat dort aber nur in zwei Vorstellungen als Aida, in drei Vorstellungen als Santuzza in ?Cavalleria rusticana½ und in einem Sunday Night Concert auf. 1904-05 erschien sie an der Londoner Covent Garden Oper als Aida, als Leonore im ?Troubadour½ und als Amelia im ?Maskenball½ von Verdi. 1909 am Teatro Costanzi in Rom als Aida zu Gast, 1910 auch an der Oper von Chicago. 1910 sang sie an der Oper von Rio de Janeiro als Mitglied einer Operntruppe unter der Leitung des Komponisten Pietro Mascagni (die dann auch in S?o Paulo und in Buenos Aires auftrat) die Aida, die Santuzza, die Margherita in ?Mefistofele½ von Boito, die Amica in der gleichnamigen Oper von Mascagni, die Maria in ?Guglielmo Ratcliff½ vom gleichen Komponisten und die Gioconda von Ponchielli; 1911 in Montevideo aufgetreten. 1909-10 Mitglied der Oper von Boston, wo sie als Aida, als Titelheldin in ?La Gioconda½ von Ponchielli, als Valentine in den ?Hugenotten½ von Meyerbeer und als Elena in ?Mefistofele½ von Boito auftrat. 1912 h÷rte man sie am Teatro Liceo Barcelona und am Teatro Fenice Venedig, 1913 am Teatro Comunale Bologna (als Solistin im Verdi-Requiem), 1914 in Piacenza als Amelia in Verdis ?Ballo in maschera½. 1913 Gastspiele in Ru?land, 1920 sang sie an der Oper von Havanna. Weitere B?hnenpartien der S?ngerin waren die Elvira in Verdis ?Ernani½, die Leonore im ?Troubadour½ wie in ?La forza del destino½ von Verdi, die Elena in ?I Vespri Siciliani½, die Maria in ?Ruy Blas½ von Marchetti, die Tosca und sogar die Br?nnhilde im ?Siegfried½. 1923 gab sie ihre Karriere auf und wirkte lange Zeit als P?dagogin in Mailand; eine ihrer Sch?lerinnen war die Sopranistin Margherita Grandi. Quick note on grading:
The Grade (Excellent to Fair, I don't give Mint) refers to the WEAR of the record. Any other defects are stated separately, when prefaced with "HOWEVER" or "BUT" they will be significant.
When I listen to a record, I may also give it an aural grade (again E to F), and make a SUBJECTIVE judgment of the pressing quality for hiss and surface noise.
"SUPERQUIET" is basically noiseless, like a vinyl pressing.
"VERY QUIET" is an exceptionally quiet record for a given pressing.
"Quiet" is a record that is a great example without undue noise for a give pressing.
These judgments are SUBJECTIVE and will depend one the styli, phonograph etc. you use on your own equipment.

Records will be packed safely between corrugated cardboard in a sturdy box with plenty of padding for safe shipment.
Shipment is usually Media Mail, unless another service is requested. Shipping is at your risk, I will be happy to insure items at your cost.
