It speaks for the voice of Korsoff, that in the late 1930s an unconscious collector had one of her cylinders reissued on record as an unknown recording by Adelina Patti

Great precise coloratura singing in Pasquale

Condition: VERY GOOD PLUS only lightest wear, but short scratches throughtou. Batti has a small needle dig at end. Plays only with light surface noise, but recording level is low. Light wear audible end of Pasquale. Batti has a short noisy start.

Lucette Korsoff (1876-1955)

Korsoff was born in Italy of Russian parents. At sixteen, she performed with a Russian opera troupe of which her father was a member. She studied with Fr?d?ric Boyer in Paris and sang the role of Marie in the Brussels Opera's production of The Bartered Bride in 1905. She also appeared at the Op?ra-Comique, New Orleans Opera, Boston Opera and Monte Carlo Opera. She was a coloratura soprano with technique to spare and a beautiful tone. She was particularly admired as the Queen of the Night.

Korsoff, Lucette, Sopran, * 1.2.1876 Genua, † 14.2.1955 Brüssel; sie wurde in Italien als Tochter russischer Eltern geboren. Ihr eigentlicher Familienname war Goehring. Ihr Vater hatte diesen Namen in Anlehnung an den Familiennamen seines Mailänder Lehrers Corsi in Korsoff geändert. Unter dem Namen Bogomir Korsoff (1845-1920; auch Korsow geschrieben) hatte er eine bedeutende Karriere an russischen Theatern und bereiste mit einer eigenen Wanderoper Rußland. Ihr Vater ließ sie 1893 in einem Gastspiel dieser Truppe an der Kaiserlichen Oper Moskau auftreten (in »La serva padrona« von Pergolesi). Dann folgten ergänzende Studien in Paris bei Frédéric Boyer und bei Rosine Laborde. Offizielles Debüt 1901 am Opernhaus von Toulouse. Bei einer Ägypten-Tournee wurde sie 1902 vor allem als Ophélie im »Hamlet« von A. Thomas gefeiert. 1903 kam sie für drei Jahre an die Opéra-Comique Paris, dann 1906 an das Théâtre de la Monnaie, die Oper von Brüssel. 1908 sang sie während einer Saison an der Oper von Algier, dann wieder 1908-10 an der Opéra-Comique. Dort erregte sie 1909 großes Aufsehen in der Rolle der Königin der Nacht in der »Zauberflöte«. 1910-11 abermals in Brüssel tätig, dann bereiste sie die USA und hatte 1911-12 glänzende Erfolge am Opernhaus von New Orleans, 1912-13 an der Oper von Boston, 1912 gab sie mehrere Konzerte in New York und gastierte auch an der Hofoper von St. Petersburg. 1913 nochmaliges Studium bei Teresa Arkel in Mailand. 1914 gastierte sie in London und war dann an einigen italienischen Theatern zu Gast. Durch den Ersten Weltkrieg wurde sie in Italien festgehalten. 1918 gab sie ein Gastspiel an der Oper von Monte Carlo, wo sie 1922 nochmals in der (posthumen) Uraufführung der Oper »Amadis« von Massenet mitwirkte. 1922 beendete sie ihre Karriere und lebte dann als Pädagogin in Paris. Zu ihren Schülern gehörten neben der berühmten italienischen Sopranistin Gina Cigna auch der russische Bassist Konstantin Youkovitch und der polnische Baß Thaddeus Wierszbicki. Seit 1936 wohnte sie, zuletzt ganz verarmt, in Brüssel. - Koloratursopran von überlegener Beherrschung der Gesangstechnik und exquisiter, nuancenreicher Klangschönheit.

Die Stimme der Sängerin ist durch schöne Schallplattenaufnahmen auf G & T (Paris, 1906), Zonophone (Paris, 1905-06), Vocalion, Edison und Pathé überliefert.

[Nachtrag] Korsoff, Lucette, † 14.2.1955 Brüssel; sie debütierte bereits 1902 an der Pariser Opéra-Comique als Lakmé von Delibes. In ihrem Repertoire für die Bühne fanden sich Partien wie die Angèle in »Le Domino noir« von Auber, die Philine in »Mignon« von A. Thomas, die Rose Friquet in »Les Dragons de Villars« (»Das Glöckchen des Eremiten«) von A. Maillart, die Baucis in »Philémon et Baucis« von Gounod, die Isabelle in »Le Pré-aux-Clercs« von Hérold, die Anna in »La Dame blanche« von Boieldieu, die Micaela in »Carmen«, die Norina im »Don Pasquale«, die Rosina im »Barbier von Sevilla«, die Martha von Flotow, die Marie in Donizettis »La Fille du Régiment«, die Musetta in »La Bohème«, die Susanna in »Nozze di Figaro« und die Marie in Smetanas »Verkaufter Braut«, die sie 1907 in der französischsprachigen Erstaufführung der Oper in Brüssel vortrug.- Schallplattenaufnahmen auf Pathé (Paris 1907) und Edison (London 1913), eine Aufnahme auf Disque Dutreix (Paris 1905).

Quick note to grading:

The Grade (Excellent to Fair, I don't give Mint) refers to the WEAR of the record. Any other defects are stated separately, when prefaced with "HOWEVER" or "BUT" they will be significant.

When I listen to a record, I may also give it an aural grade (again E to F), and make a SUBJECTIVE judgment of the pressing quality for hiss and surface noise.
"SUPERQUIET" is basically noiseless, like a vinyl pressing.
"VERY QUIET" is an exceptionally quiet record for a given pressing.
"Quiet" is a record that is a great example without undue noise for a give pressing.

These judgments are SUBJECTIVE and will depend one the styli, phonograph etc. you use on your own equipment.

Records will be packed safely between corrugated cardboard in a sturdy box with plenty of padding for safe shipment.

MANY MORE RECORDS: Don't worry. I safely ship 40 - 50 pounds of records double boxed in moving boxes, and even then Media Mail will probably not exceed 30$.
