Description
Up for bid is a RARE 1929 10" shellac record by the Mason Dixon Orchestra of WHAT A DAY! and ALABAMMY SNOW. This is Columbia 1861-D. The previous owner of this and other similar Whiteman/Bix records that I will be listing was a Beiderbecke collector. Since I am not a grader, I will give you his grading, which is lightly on the record. If there is no grade, I will not give one, but they are all in similar condition. If there are any other notations about condition, I will give you those as well. There is no written grade, but looks and plays great. Labels are quite clean as well.
I found this quote on-line: …in the discographies and books about Bix, it has always been accepted that he was not present and that everything on this record that sounds like Bix was actually played by Secrest. However, careful listening and deducting reveals that Bix can be heard on both sides.Using the latest techniques we have newly restored both titles from a mint copy of Columbia 1861-D and identification of Bix has become quite obvious.First of all, on both sides Secrest is the very prominent lead cornetist and it is clear that there is only one other cornet present – Bix.” - from the78rpmspins website
Record will be well packed in a cardboard mailer. Please check out the photos to help in determining condition. Thanks.
