TEST RECORDS SENT TO HOWARD GODFREY WHEN HIS 'WALDORFIANS' WERE THE RESIDENT BAND AT
THE WALDORF HOTEL, LONDON IN THE 1930s.
Up for auction is a unique collection of 110 records that were sent to Mr Godfrey for him to select which 'take' of a song should be published. Included are the commercial releases of each record on labels such as Victory (Woolworths), Metropole, Piccadilly, Decca Panachord, and Regal Zonophone. Fifteen of the numbers feature AL BOWLLY as vocalist and many titles run to 4 or 5 takes, only one of which was pressed for release. There are several recordings of broadcasts but the quality is generally poor due to atmospherics and interference due to passing traffic. The numerous boxes and record labels are covered with notes and approval ticks (and crosses!). There are several publicity flyers, even packets of needles with which to play the records!

A few of them are unplayable due to warping and cracks but the rest clean up nicely using the relevant computer software.
