Original 1935 US 78 rpm issue. RARE! disc
Recorded September 4, 1935 in Chicago, IL; Carl Martin, voc, g; poss. Willie Bee James, g
Excellent "two-guitars" topical Blues sides by Carl Martin.
A side is about the legendary Boxer Joe Louis, the flip about President Franklin D. Roosevelt's "New Deal"
Carl Martin (1906) was known for playing several instruments and mastering various musical styles. His first recording was with the Tennessee Chocolate Drops in 1930 (with Howard "Louie Bluie" Armstrong). In the early 30s Carl moved to Chicago where besides a number of solo sides, he backed stars like Tampa Red, Bumble Bee Slim,  Washboard Sam, Freddie Spruell & Jimmie Gordon.
A must see is the terrific 1985 Terry Zwigoff directed documentary "Louie Bluie" about Howard Armstrong, and also featuring  Ted Bogan. The two buddys with whom Carl reunited in the 70s to play as "Martin, Bogan, and Armstrong". Sadly Carl died May  10, 1979 in Pontiac, Mississippi and was not in the film.
