Great recording by Hungarian Contralto ENID SZANTHO
The Passion of Our Lord According to St. Matthew (Bach) is recorded by Enid Szantho, accompanied by an orchestra under Alexander Smallens. The number is Erbarme Dich Mein Gott, and the violin obligate is played by Michael Rosenker.

Szantho, Enid (born 1907), contralto
(b Budapest, 1907). Hungarian contralto. She made her début in 1928 at the Vienna Staatsoper, where she was engaged until 1939. At Bayreuth (1930–37) she sang Erda, the First Norn and Waltraute in the Ring, and an Esquire and a flowermaiden in Parsifal. She made her Covent Garden début in 1936 as Erda and then sang Fricka (Die Walküre), the role in which she made her Metropolitan
