Description
16 Inch, 33 1/3 rpm, black lacquer acetate coated aluminum disc. This disc was recorded for reference purposes only and not available to the general public. There is only one label on this disc, and it appears that the contents of that side were typed on the back of a CBS Columbia Broadcasting System label
Side one features approximately 15 minutes from September 23, 1939 featuring Raymond Scott & His Orchestra with Judith Arlen & trombonist Moe Zudekoff (who would later change his name to Buddy Morrow)
From the comments by the announcer, this 15 minutes is a broadcast portion of a live performance, so I suspect that this is the only part of this performance that was broadcast. To start the program, the announcer states "Resuming tonight's broadcast portion of "The Concert In Rhythm", with a group of outstanding soloists, we again turn our attention to that portion of the concert devoted to our soloists, and the trombonist Moe Zudekoff is featured in his version of the ultra modern blues "The Dead End Blues". Other songs include "I'm A'wearyin' For You" vocal Judith Arlen, "Huckelberry Duck", "Peanut Vendor". This side ends with the announcer stating "thus concludes tonight's broadcast portion of a special concert in rhythm, with tonight's featured soloists, miss Judith Arlen, The Four Clubmen and Moe Zudekoff trombone. This is Jack Reid King speaking. This is The Columbia Broadcasting System". Judith Arlen was an actress, sister of Ann Rutherford, who would later act under the name Judith Rutherford. 15 minutes. I could not find any radio credits for either Judith Arlen or Buddy Morrow performing under the name Moe Zudekoff in any radio log or online database
Side two features part two, the second half of "For The Record" radio program from August 7, 1944 starring Gene Krupa & His Orchestra. Songs include "Swinging On A Star" vocal Lillian Lane & The Escorts, "I'll Walk Alone" vocal Peggy Mann, "You Never Say Yes" vocal Barry Wood, "Drum Boogie". This was a radio program produced by V-Disc as songs from this radio series were pressed to V-Disc for broadcast to servicemen overseas. 15 minutes
