Voice Lesson Record by Mark Markoff, a noted Russian tenor and singing teacher to Hollywood stars
SEEMS like everyone is taking voice or singing lessons in Hollywood these days. In fact, vocal abilities are becoming so prominent that they jokingly tell you at one studio that a scenario writer, when recently applying for a position, was asked by force of habit how his voice was and if he could sing. Ruth Chatterton has been taking singing lessons from Mark Markoff for about three months. Mr. Markoff says Miss Chatterton has outstanding qualifications for an operatic career.

Method. After thirty years of singing and teaching, Mr. Markoff still retains a splendid voice. This, together with the outstanding success achieved with other voices, has proven to Mr. Markoff and many others that only ONE RIGHT METHOD EXISTS, which is CORRECT POSITION of the MOUTH, CORRECT BREATHING, and SUPPORT. In observing these simple rules all of the intricate details such as position of the tongue, open throat, tone forward, etc., expounded in other methods are automatically accomplished. Mr. Markoff, whose popularity as a singer and vocal instructor was unparalleled in Russia and other parts of Europe, was induced by American managers to come to the United States where he opened vocal studios in New York which attracted musical patrons and quickly became the center of musical art. Since coming to Los Angeles in 1929 under contract to Pathe Studios to teach Gloria Swanson to sing in the motion picture, "The Trespasser," in which her singing was a noted success, Mr. Markoff has established himself as one of the leading teachers of the singing art in Los Angeles.
