Description

Pictured above is a pretty rare DMM (Direct Metal Master) 17" Copper Disc used to make vinyl records.  This one is from the 1940's and was made by DALE SHEARS in his Struthers, Ohio (Mahoning County) recording studio at the DALE SHEARS SCHOOL OF MUSIC (the photo of one of his books above is for reference only and NOT included with the disc).  Dale Shears was well known at the time for making instructional music books.  I do not know the content of this Master Disc but assume it is recorded music either by him or a client of the studio.  The copper disc is impressive and will look great hanging on a wall in your studio or Man-Cave.  The front grove side is brilliant and the back is unfinished as shown in the photos above.  His name is etched backwards so, when the record is pressed, it will transfer correctly.  This is also a nice piece of local Youngstown history as well as a forgotten method of making records.  The last DMM lathe in America sold at auction in 2005 for $72,500 to the Church Of Scientology.  There are very few copper discs that remain.  
Again, the photo of the music book is Not included and only used for reference.
