On offer in this auction is a very rare "circa 1947 stated first edition DIAL RECORDS Catalog/Price List" of 78-rpm records in very good condition. This fold-out catalogue is 8-pages long with each page being approximately 4" by 9". The cover, which states first edition on the bottom, consists of bizarre graphic image by Wally Berman that also graces the covers of Dial's 78-rpm 'Be-Bop Album" releases for 1947 and 1948. Then follows a single page of text "BEBOP: what is it?" and then photos and record release information for classic recordings by CHARLIE PARKER, Dizzy Gillespie, Howard McGhee, Bill Harris, Erroll Garner, and a write-up about the "1947 Bebop Album". Then follows a Dial Records, New York, NY address "Price List", "Typical Reviews" and then a last page of text "a MESSAGE from YOUR JAZZ DEALER".

The latest record listed as released is Dial 1012, with Dial 1013 through Dial 1016 listed as "*Watch for release date". This first edition catalog dates sometime after April, 1947 (the date of the latest record review). It coincides with Parker's release from Camarillo State Hospital and his, and Dial Record owner Ross Russell's move from LA to New York.

 It is in very good shape with signs of wear and light soiling. There is  a slight 3/4" tear at the top of one of the pages and remnants of a single small piece of tape and two remaining small tape pieces. The inside is unmarked except for a very neat, small and light pencil annotation "-Parker" after the Dial D-1 Album listing of Dial 1007. This first edition catalog and any paraphernalia from these early classic days of Dial Records with Charlie Parker is historically significant and decidedly rare and a very tough find.
