Description

Wow - I never thought I would find one of these! I listened to it here and there very gently, and this is what I found: It is a live recording from the Skyline Terrace Room with the Chittison Trio (electric guitar, bass, piano). The M.C. says that a bit later the "First Lady of Swing" is going to perform, and the Chittison Trio opens with "Temptation" - a very nice piece. Then there is a bit of dialogue where Mildred talks about her upcoming tour to Europe, her beginnings with Paul Whiteman in 1929, and her decision to go it alone in 1933. She then presents "My latest recording" and sings "Me and the Blues," a really great tune with superb accompaniment.

The acetate is tight everywhere, but needs a gentle cleaning, as there was surface noise from the impurities in the grooves. There is ONE very small dot of missing acetate, an imperfection or blister spot of some kind. It made a ticking sound when passing through that spot for 4 or five revolutions, toward the very beginning of the dialogue on side two. Aside from that slight imperfection, which can easily be removed with a computer program, the recording is clean. I didn't listen to the whole thing simply out of respect for the fragility of these recordings, but everything I heard was fine, clean sound, just some surface noise, no scratches.

The label is hard to read, but says "Mildred Bailey" on B side, and is dated Feb. 1, 1947 on both sides. Origin is: ABC, and "Chittison Trio" is on both labels. A very nice rare recording, possibly unique.
