78 rpm acetate aircheck- 1947 Game 4 World Series. Brooklyn Dodgers vs. the New York Yankees at Ebbets Field. Red Barber is broadcasting, along with Mel Allen....Starts with the famous Cookie Lavagetto call-- the winning hit- a double, breaking up Bill Bevens bid for a no hitter, and giving the Dodgers a win in the series game 4. Someone at home was using a home recorder and started it as the game was winding down. There are 4+ minutes of audio here, from the winning hit call, to the description of the joyous Dodgers, and the resultant jubilation of the fans, talking about the players, etc...You've probably heard the beginning of this disk on newsreel footage of the game, but never have heard the words that followed by two all time great baseball announcers- Red Barber, and Mel Allen... On October 3, 1947 at Ebbets Field, Bevens was ahead 2-1 going into the bottom of the ninth inning with two outs. He had surrendered no hits — an unprecedented World Series achievement at the time — but two runners were on base from Bevens' ninth and tenth base on balls of the game. Lavagetto was summoned by Dodger pilot Burt Shotton to hit for Eddie Stanky and he cracked an opposite-field double to break up the no-hitter and score the two Dodger runners for a 3-2 Brooklyn win. It was Lavagetto's only hit of the series (won by the Yankees in seven games) and his last as a big leaguer. Record is in excellent shape, and requires a 78 rpm speed turntable to play. I can make a CD of the broadcast to the winner if so desried... Fascinating piece of baseball history, and a rare bit of radio as very few airchecks like this exist..
