TOUSAN LP THE WILD SOUND OF NEW ORLEANS (Allen Toussaint)
RCA LPM-1767
First pressing from 1958.

Twelve songs recorded when young Allen was 21 at Cosimo Matassa's studio at 525 Governor Nichols. Such rollicking cuts as "Wham Tousan," "Tim Tam" and "Pelican Parade." Superb cover design in a Spanish-New Orleans tile motif w/ photo by Nolan A Marshall. (Dig Allen in his dapper plaid suit and even dappier tie!). This record has been stored in a rice paper sleeve, so its surface gloss is nicely preserved. Matassa cowrote a couple of the songs here. Nice, old-style cover construction on sturdy cardboard with the spine print also running across the top spine. Famed silver-on-black RCA Victor label design.
Many thanks to Barry Parkhill (on the hunt when he's not shooting jumpers) for uncovering this astounding artifact that I had never seen before.

DISC - VG

We give great importance to grading our items accurately. No warping, skips, visible needle wear, or residue on playing surface or dead wax. There are some light flecks & some streaks & surface scuffs. Some of that was caused by removing the disc from the rice paper sleeve. If you hear these light flecks at all, it will be quite faint. Two shallow pimples covering just 1/16th of an inch. Disc surface shows very nice gloss. I believe the listener will find this artifact very easy to enjoy. Both labels are in excellent shape with no writing, stickers, tears, or other blemishes. Sharp cut hole with no fraying and a smidgen of spindle scuffing on just one side. Matrix # J2 PP2311-1S. A3 also stamped in dead wax (mastering brand?).

COVER - VG+

Dazzling color combination: Deep rich lime on magenta (!) with attractive surface gloss. Hardly any corner banging. Very mild ring wear. Faint to mild degree of rubbing. Just the faint beginning of a seam split on the bottom open edge. No tears, cuts, writing, fraying scuffs or sun bleaching. Spine & spine print looks very very good. Cover print is sharp. We've added a better plastic inner sleeve to store the platter.

Don't miss your chance to pick up this rare gem!
