Reading a Chapter From The Crust On Its Uppers
Very rare promotional flexidisc.
Published in 1962 by New Authors Ltd, ‘an enterprise of the Hutchinson Publishing Group’ to promote new publications.
Robin Cook (1931 - 1994) better known since the 1980’s by his pen name Derek Raymond , was an English Crime writer credited with being a founder of British noir.
The Crust on its Uppers was his debut novel published in 1962 and featured colourful rhyming slang of the time.
The disc is quite worn but does play through with no jumps and the speech is still clear.
The surface looks mottled but I suspect it is the way the PVC has aged over time.
Running time is approximately 10 minutes.
Flexi discs were not meant to last long so I would advise possibly playing this once and recording it for future enjoyment.
The sleeve is a stunning piece of sixties cool and is still in excellent condition with minimal wear only.
I can’t find mention of this item anywhere and it comes from the estate of a second hand bookseller based in South London in the 1960’s and 70’s who had some wonderful publishing rarities.
