Under the capable direction of veteran musical-showman, John R. "Jackie" Souders, this organization is destined to become one of America's most versatile and entertaining bands. Many of its members have made their mark in various music capitals of the world and have returned to Seattle to participate in this all-out musical effort. Assistant Conductor Del Hartman is a graduate of the University of Washington School of Music, with previous training at Gonzaga University and in bands of the U. S. Navy. This young man with a horn is considered one of the West Coast's finest trumpet soloists and is equally proficient in the performance of classics and modern jazz. Among his many brass students are some of the finest young players in the area. The international flavor of this recorded program is designed to please a wide variety of musical tastes and from the "Monorail Twist" to the Continental favorite "Greensleeves," this memento will enable each visitor to recapture the thrills and excitement of a great World's Fair for many years to come. Among the soloists featured in this session are trombonists Earl Kelley and Ken Cloud; trumpeters Del Hartman, Bill Cole, Don Smith, Roy Cummings and Les Beigel; reedmen Joe Adams, Ronald Phillips, Bob Blackie and Corky Corcoran; accordionist Frankie Sugia and percussionists Howard Gilbert, Bill Kotick and Emil Hansen. Staff arranger for the Band is Bernard Press who had established for himself a fine reputation as trombonist-arranger with several of the nation's big name bands before joining the Souders dance orchestra in 1958. "Colonel Bogey" was arranged by the Hollywood musical giant, Jeff Alexander who was born and raised in Seattle. Stan "West Side Story" Keen, another native Washingtonian, is responsible for the novel, highly effective treatment of "La Siene." Northwest composer Gerald Kechley, an instructor at the U. of W. arranged "Green- sleeves."
