Description
Salesian High School "Rock 'n Roll Show" 1964 - Production and MC by Bill Taggart 12-song MONO LP on Century Custom Recording Service (Matrix # 0-V-19070-1/0-V-19070-2) from 1964. This is a fanastatic musical document of a concert held on April 19, 1964 at Salesian High School in East Los Angeles, CA, and according to the liner notes, 2,000-people were in attendance to hear some of the top name Rock and Roll bands from the East LA area featuring mainly Latin bands/performers. As you'll hear in the sound clips below, at times the audience of teenage girls make it sound like they're at a Beatles concert, but I'm sure these bands were the "Beatles" of the time in this area. As this was a private pressing, there probably weren't too many pressed at the time, and I'd assume that most were purchased by teenagers and were probably played to death, so I'd guess that there aren't too many copies still around after 48+ years.

At first when I was looking at the front cover, I thought there was some penned scribbles to the dark areas of the front cover, but then when I looked closer I saw that these penned marks were actually names or words. I could make out 10 different penned signatures, plus there were at least 3 others and a few others in pencil, but they were so faded or worn, that I just couldn't make them out clearly. The 10 signatures are: "Yoland", "Vince", "Yolun" (?), "Tuff Efcorse" (last name?), "Ifcare" (?), "Tacer" (?), "Rosita", "Rosie", "Robert", and "Elastia" (?). Now honestly, it's obvious that half those names I couldn't completely make out, and actually may be just words or nicknames or even Spanish names/words that I just don't know. It's hard to say if the name/signatures are members of the bands that performed on this LP or are classmates or friends of the teenager who originally bought this LP, but I'll leave that to you to research if you so choose.

The artists and songs included on this LP are: Bobbie and the Esquires - "You'll Lose A Good Thing", John Gamboa Sextet - "Down At The Chicken Shack" and "Moody's Mood For Love", Sal Padilla and the Leggeriors - "Night Train", Thee Midnighters - "Chinese Checkers" and "For Your Love", The Vesuvians - "The Fugitive" and "Hand Clapping", Blue Satins - "Summertime", "Love Lights" and "My First Love", and The Salesian Swing Band - "Theme For Rock 'n Roll".

PLEASE NOTE: I also have the second volume in this series up for auction this week, so please make sure you check that copy out as well! If you win multiples, I'll combine them into one package to save you $$$ on S/H!!!
The maroon labeled vinyl is in good condition with a fair amount of sleeve marks and scratches. I'll be honest about this LP, there's a fair amount of pops and clicks, and in having played and listened to this entire LP, I found that there was one stuck groove in the Blue Satins 3rd song, "My First Love". As you'll see and hear below, is that I've included three clips for this LP, with the first one being a 7-minute clip of segments of the 6-songs on Side 1, the second one being a nearly 7.5-minute clip of segments of the 7-songs on Side 2 that shows the stuck groove in "My First Love" at the 5:01 mark, and the last clip is the same clip of "My First Love" that I was able to digitally "fix". What you'll hear in the last clip, is that I was able to create a digital file of "My First Love" that plays through the stuck groove, which I found that I was able to "fix" by playing in backwards mode on my Stanton STR8-80, this way it physically plays through without getting stuck, and then I recorded it into my computer and was able to then reverse that one section to create a complete version without the stuck groove. So just to be clear, I was able to do this digitally in my computer, but the needle did physically get stuck when played in "normal"/forward mode on my turntable and will most likely do the same on your turntable.
The cover is is poor condition, with a total of 25" of seam splitting (including the whole top and bottom seams), storage wear, clear aging, creases around the edges, dinged/worn/rounded corners, impressions to the center of the front cover, a stain to the center and top left corner of the back cover, a small pen ink smear to the left side of the back cover, thin pieces of the front cover slick missing at the top and bottom, dings/chips/flaps at the opening, a tiny penned price of $3.10 at the top right corner of the back cover, the punctation on the front cover filled in with pen ink, the LP title striped in pen ink, and penned names on the dark areas of the front cover.
You can hear sound samples of each side/song below, which is from the actual record in this auction. Please take a look at the photos below of each side of the label to view the label condition. This is a RARE & COOL Salesian High School/Latin/garage rock/R&B collectible, make sure you bid on this one today!!!
