Description

PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question.   OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week.   Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback.   We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery.   We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. Thank you for your interest and support. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

FINAL COLLECTION COPY ...comes with an -original- BONUS booklet to Blind Joe Death...

RARE and highly sought for goood reason...the original 1965 first printing in glorious MONOPHONIC ...the 3rd Lp by John Fahey filled with innovative hyper creative guitar weavings & injections...

Found inside the cover is the THICK 15 page lyric booklet to John Fahey's "Transfiguration Of Blind Joe Death" ...

The '65 "DANCE OF DEATH" Lp contains lots more slide-guitar and a lot more darkness in coparison to his other albums, so of course our favorite track uses the former to completely undermine the latter. "On the Banks of the Owchita" sees Fahey teaming up with a second guitarist, resulting in hyper-vivid textures: quivering moonbeams slicing through waves of chords, me struck back, slack-jawed at such beauty.

For the first time, our hero no longer sounds limited by blues convention. If he wants to load up on double-string drones ("Variations on the Coocoo") or construct a series of vignettes that twist through sickly tension, ambiguous dissonance, and resigned shudders ("What the Sun Said"), it's just as fine as him laying out some high-stepping strides ("Worried Blues").

Fahey saves his trump for last, though, revealing "Dance of Death" as his most successful long-form composition yet, wasting no time between lean, carved descents, high-strung cackles, and billowing chords that wash us back to the unforgiving grind. Overall, this early steel-string acoustic album only begins to hint at the level of dissonance, experimentation, and spacey arrangements and textures Fahey would eventually bring to his work, while still remaining a blend of traditional styles, classical composition, and Fahey's own signature imprint. His trademark ability to take traditional forms and re-purpose them into something a little darker and more existential coalesced here.  Surely one of the man's best efforts.  Worthy of plenty of spins.
