Original MONO first pressing from 1966 in CLEAN condition...
The monaural pressing offers the big bold punch in the sound production which is vastly different from the stereo release...
...Here's one of the BEST and hardest to find DC5 albums heading with the driving rocker "TRY TOO HARD" (one of their best unsung hits -- it was a hit but went by many people), as well as this great album ... loud, chuggy, and bombastic in the quintessential DC5 style, and out of ten songs, only two are ballads, with only 'Scared Of Falling In Love' a lesser cut. The other ballad, 'Today' is much better, because its moody, echoey sound, that is really 1963 all along (think something like the Beatles' take on 'Anna (Go With Him)' on their first album) somehow actually fits in with the dark folksy vibe of late '65/early '66 (think the first Jefferson Airplane album).
The harmonies, the fat guitars which they power with feedback (an update of their old sound -- so fat and bulky you'll notice the guitar tones have changed), the general saxophone din, the overpowering drumbeat, it's all there. One of the best tracks another highlight of the album, 'It Don't Feel Good' contains cool falsetto harmonies that works nicely against the fuzzed-distortion guitar. And on the title track, "Try Too Hard" with the swirling guitar line - yes, it's that clever thin guitar pattern that drives the song, not the overall mammoth assault - and it makes the song more memorable than the rest. Elsewhere, there are some clever poprock hooks on the other tracks as well which ends with the Bo Diddleyesque 'I Know' -- it's the band's first attempt at putting their own seal on the classic Diddley beat. It's actually successful.

CONDITION: The Cover:is solid and stiff with sharp corners, near "EX" (excellent) careful past handling, has no problems other than one very little corner bump that should not bother most anyone (no seam splits, no bends, no writing)
The Vinyl: is clean and shiny, visual VG++ as has only a very few hard to see hairthin scuffs from inner paper sleeve, so expect to play excellent enjoyable.
