Description
PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. Because of that dedication, there should be no need to open a resolution dispute before working with us. Please keep in mind, we would prefer to continue to provide you the opportunity to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our well over 18,000 positive feedback. We use an ultrasonic KLAudio machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. Thank you for your interest and support. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SHIPPING: USA ~ 1 LP = $4.00 Media Priority rates vary by area; please inquire. - RAY BROWN & THE WHISPERS
- "Headin' For The TOP"
- ..|/\|...............................................|/\|..
- AUSTRALIAN ~ LEEDON ~ LL, 31, 721 (MONO)
About as good as you can hope for, looks strong, plays minty clean !!!!
- Far more difficult to find in such clean condition, this specially preserved first '66 pressing is the genuine artifact, reflecting on the mid 60's teen-scene, when records were played to death and more than often treated like a pair of old shoes.
Australia was no exception. Theirs was a rather rowdy UK Invasion styled outbreak with teen-scene attractions highlighting local rave-up bands such as the Breakaways, Libretto's, Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs, and much more. The Easybeats fueled with the world-wide outbreak "Friday On My Mind" in 1966 rose to the top, though just as important, even more formidable bands as such died by the wayside due to only one reason, poor promotion by weak minded record company personal.
Enter one such group, Ray Brown and the Whispers. Ray Brown was the vocalist of this crew, having a tight stinging guitar led, and tight backing sculpting his impressive vocal style, delivery and style, not unlike the Easybeats, and others. It was all about the U.K. Invasion "rave-up" in line with the Stones, Yardbirds, etc etc.
Ray Brown & the Whispers were a highly successful Australian rock band from 1964 to 1967. Led by singer Ray Brown, they ranked alongside the Easybeats, Billy Thorpe & the Aztecs and Normie Rowe and the Playboys as one of the most popular acts of the period. In 1964, the band played at the Bowl, a Sydney nightclub, doing covers of popular songs such as "Shakin All Over" and frenzied others.
-
The group performed regularly in front of thousands of excitable teenagers who danced wildly to the sounds and energy provided by these new pop-rock heroes of style and aggression. It was inevitable that the clean-cut and personable Ray Brown would stand as the equal of any of the others as a pin-up sensation. Over a period of two years, Brown and the Whispers issued four albums, seven singles and eight EPs. Indeed, their run of four Top 5 hits in a row – including three #1s in "20 Miles", "Pride" and "Fool, Fool, Fool" - in hometown Sydney during 1965 alone proved to be a milestone in local pop music history. Other highlights include the gritty garage rockers "(Ain't It) Strange" and "That's Evil", the moody "Too Late to Come Home" (with the Bee Gees on backing vocals), the chiming "Go to Him", laden with electric 12-string guitar, and covers of soul staples "In the Midnight Hour" and "Respect".
- Ray Brown left his mark on the beat-rock explosion though little known his decidedly greatest achievement came a few years later when his album Ray Brown and Moonstone "Madhouse" circa 1970, delivered perhaps the best array of psych gems Australia ever had to offer. The artifact commands $$$ in global collector circles, yet, we for one, highly recommend.
- Unfortunately Ray Brown expired just after his 50th birthday in a sudden heart attack ending an impressive career, his stamp on early rock & roll, and beyond....

- CONDITION:
- The cover: rated: VG++ about as solid as one can find, very fragile and laminated with old style "back-flap" seams. Only slight handling evident, if remotely interested, grab it now! There are no delete marks, no split seams, no bends, and no writing ...
- The vinyl: Rated: "EX" (excellent) - really clean, plays fantastic, no audio issues ... far difficult to find THIS clean than one may imagine, talking 55 years onward, Australian only teen-scene beat/garage rave-up. Ray Brown & The Whispers *best* lp of 4 released. Both Australian (MONO) LEEDON labels are clean
A cool addition to anyone's music library!
