Description
A really fine and rare, near mint condition of an early First Pressing of The Beatles ‘Revolver’ Long Play Record by Parlophone.
The 33 1/3 rpm album cover shows an ornate pen drawing of the 4 heads, with photos of them interspersed within the composition. With the code PMC7009, it was released on the 5th August, 1966, in mono by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd. It has a laminated flipback front cover, with outline “mono” on front cover. As an early first pressing the record has the black label with yellow logo and silver print: The Parlophone Co. Ltd. printed at the start perimeter print, Sold in U.K. subject…, the title of the song Doctor Robert, appears as Dr. Robert (later corrected). The label has the KT tax code in relief next to the central hole. The matrix numbers are Side 1: XEX 605-1; Side 2: XEX 606-1. The record inner sleeve is Tracing-paper-lined, with “Use Emitex” on it.
When “Revolver” was initially mixed a different master for “Tomorrow Never Knows” was sent off to be pressed. This mix is known as ‘Remix 11’. Although subtle, it is different to the standard ‘Remix 8’ which was ultimately to replace it. Each group member was given the first copies from the production line and John Lennon went to listen to it. He was unhappy with the mix and he informed George Martin. Production was then stopped as the new masters were cut and the pressing plates were replaced.
