Vinyl Test Pressing

Offered in this sale is a 1967 US pre-production vinyl release for review purposes on the
Mercury MGS-27097 record label with incorrect title

Title "Soul My Way" by Jerry Lee Lewis

A test pressing may not have the same qualities as the final commercially released product. A pre-production vinyl record is made to test the quality of the finished product before pressing thousands of records. Test pressings are made to ensure that the grooves themselves are clean, deep enough, and formed correctly when the master presses into the vinyl blank; that the grooves, label and center hole are not off-center; that the vinyl does not warp; things like that.

This particular test pressing was manufactured at Richmond, IN by Mercury and sent to NYC for review. A letter to this fact accompanies some the the records that are up for auction. The letter states "This test pressing to be judged mainly for recorded content only and not for manufacturing quality.  Manufacturing defects may be present since this is a "hand-made" record and not necessarily representative of the manufacturing quality which can be expected from the production pressings."


CONDITION:

VINYL:  NM; visually graded and untested.  One album but with two, one sided pressings.  Comes in plain white cardboard covers. No Mercury letter accompanies this set of discs. Paper sleeve shadows present.
