Certainly rare, vintage British 2ndpressing dated on cover and label as 1969 ... the legendary first CARAVAN album was first released in 1968 ...for whatever reason it was, the album had first issued on Verve Records and the parent company to Verve, MGM Records released it again with a totally different front & back cover design....

Caravan was the first UK act to sign with American label MGM/ Verve and their debut album, entitled 'Caravan' was released late in 1968. It was favourably received by the critics and the debut single, Place of My Own was described as having a 'gripping compulsion' with 'scintillating organ work'. John Peel played the album regularly on his radio show 'Top Gear'.

A definate product of the times. Caravan's first album is pysch all the way, but their whimsical Canterbury sound is just under the surface. The first song, 'Place of My Own' is very catchy. The following songs are very Pink Floydish, ala Syd Barret, especially 'Cecil Rons' an absolute crazy pysch song. 'Love Song With Flute' has Pye Hastings brother Jimmy playing the flute, it's one of the most beautiful flute solos heard at the time and to think it was done on the spot without practice!  David Sinclair's keyboards are featured in various styles, be it sinister sounding, 'Cecil Rons', or whimsical, 'Policeman' or downright ornery, the album closer and epic 'Where But For Caravan Would I?' you hear the seeds planted for the groundbreaking and classic Canterbury albums to follow. This is psych/prog and for those looking for that classic Caravan sound you may be in for a surprise -- and if you are adventurous, you'll want to hear how Caravan sounded at the beginning.

CONDITION: The fragile UK cover is  clean and well handled over the years, "EX" (excellent) no split seams, no bends, no writing and in upper levels keeper condition.

The vinyl is all glossy clean on both sides, "EX" (excellent)
