Description
This is a 1-page, single-sided waiver agreement dated March 28, 1968, which documents Brian Wilson's agreement for Guild Music to grant permission for Capitol Records to reprint the lyrics of the song "Surfer Girl" on an album jacket and waiving receipt of songwriter royalties/compensation. This document features the smooth, flowing and distinct signature of Brian Wilson, founder and leader of the Beach Boys. Interestingly, it does not define which album cover in particular this song was to be reprinted on, as well as not even mentioning the Beach Boys by name. This document was addressed to Guild Music, which was owned by Bruce "Hite" Morgan.
"Hite" Morgan was also know as the songwriter/publisher, Bruce Morgan, who along with his wife Dorinda, recorded the first songs by the Beach Boys, and who wrote the B-side of their first single, Luau. In fact, Murry Wilson on behalf of The Beach Boys, signed a Letter Of Intent and Agreement on March 29, 1962, for Hite and Dorinda to "...act as, and perform the duties of Producing, Recording, and Promoting any and all records and Songs Written, and or recorded by The Beach Boys...". Their agreement predated the Beach Boys contract with Capitol Records. I know that's a lot of backstory, but Bruce "Hite" Morgan has an interesting place in pop music history.
This is a RARE & COOL piece of vintage rock & roll memorabilia, which came out of the collection of this well-known music publisher. I have a handful of items from this collection up for auction this week, so make sure you check them all out!!!
This 8.5" x 11" document shows a fair amount of light handling marks, 3 light flattened folds, light creases to 3 of the 4 corners, a small dog-eared corner at the bottom right corner, a faint paperclip impression to the top left corner, a slight impression of folded over staple loops at the top left corner, a slight thin 1/2" long blue pen mark at the bottom left corner, and light aging, which would be expected for a nearly 44-year old document. The signature on the document appears to be in black pen ink, and the signature clearly is impressed through to the reverse side of the document. This document is in overall good - very good condition. This is a RARE & COOL Brian Wilson/Beach Boys collectible, make sure you bid on this one today!!!
