Description
Various Artists--Williamsport, PA 1968--Empire WWR 768-513/514, mono. Empire Records was a southwestern Pennsylvania record company that released various artists samplers in 1968 from several towns across PA. Area artists would shell out payment to have their tunes released on these samplers. The Williamsport edition has a mixture of rock, pop, and even a soul tune. Vinyl is VG -. Disc has typical scuffs and scratches from record stacking and not having been kept in a sleeve. Scratches on the vinyl are not that deep, but record plays with crackle, pops, and ticks due to the cheesy quality of the vinyl used in the manufacturing process along with the general wear. Even when new, the sound quality of these albums left something to be desired. There is a skip near the beginning of Born To Be Wild, when played on some of our turntables. The record will play through on our better turntables. The sound fidelity varies; the background noise is worse on some tracks than others. There is a 1/8" edge crack on the outer lip of the intro area of the album. It doesn't go into the balance of the intro area, but can be seen on close inspection. Cover is VG -. Seams and spine are surprisingly strong. There are mildew and water stains and wear along the top border area and seam. The albums from this series are extremely rare. Not many of these samplers were pressed and were usually sold from only one store in each area. In this case, the record was sold from a music equipment shop.
