RARE 1968 MONO BRITISH ORIGINAL WITH PENTANGLE !
ALEXIS KORNER
A New Generation of Blues
\ UK - (AQUA) LIBERTY - 83147 E - MONO
Pretty rare one...the original 1969 first BRITISH vinyl pressing in bold punchy mono ...
The pioneering English bluesman Alexis Korner was a great influence on the Rolling Stones, Yardbirds, John Mayall and (many) others ... here he teems up with PENTANGLE and it's a blues classic...
Without Alexis Korner, there still might have been a British blues scene in the early 1960s, but chances are that it would have been very different from the one that spawned the Rolling Stones, nurtured the early talents of Eric Clapton and made it possible for figures such as John Mayall to reach an audience.
Korner wrote about half of the material on "A New Generation Of Blues", leaving the rest of the space open for R&B/blues adaptations of standards, helped by Pentangle rhythm section (and former Korner sidemen) Danny Thompson and Terry Cox (fresh off recording their first classic Pentangle album). "The Same for You" has a strange, ever-so-slight psychedelic influence, with its swirling flute, fake fadeout, and odd anti-establishment lyrics. Korner's voice is (and always would be) a tuneless bark, but it sounds better here than it did on the first album to prominently feature his vocals (I Wonder Who, 1967). As such, this album is one of the best representations of Korner as a frontman.
