1969 RARE ORIGINAL "S.F.SOUND" RURAL PSYCH CLASSIC!
MAD RIVER
Paradise Bar And Grill
\ USA - lime green Capitol ST 185 - stereo
RARE, gotten hard to find, especially clean.... highly sought after original first pressing on the old limited lime green Capitol Records label ,,,the second MAD RIVER LP! The real deal...
Mad River were an unjustly obscure bay area late 60's band - actually the group originated in Yellow Springs, Ohio. The group played a wide variety of music- psychedelic rock, rural rock, with pinches of jazz, bluegrass, and folk. Somebody once said, and correctly, that Mad River were weird even for the time.
1969's Paradise Bar and Grill, the follow up to their dememted first album, was even better. While ACADEMY CEMETERY (featuring some great percussion in the midst of overblown psychedelics) and LEAVE ME STAY reminded listeners of their earlier psychedelic works, overall the album was more reminiscent of, say, the Band's, 'Big Pink' album particularly on the beautiful and brilliant title cut, COPPER PLATES, and REVOLUTION'S IN MY POCKETS. Nearly every track was excellent, and fans of sixties SF Psych sounds, The BAND, or "Americana" music should definitely enjoy this album. Unfortunately, Mad River broke up shortly before or after the album's release. If you like the 1st Youngbloods, first three Quicksilver's, or Country Joe & The Fishes first three Lp's, miced with The Bands 'Big Pink' Lp, you should check out this highly underrated band. Definitely one of the better, more unusual, and more interesting late 60's San Francisco aggregations ...
