Description
1970 Johnny "Hammond" Smith Soul Jazz EX LP on Prestige - Black Feeling!
Johnny "Hammond" Smith - Black Feeling! (Prestige PR 7736.) Good 1970 release by the organist and composer. Smith became known as Johnny 'Hammond' Smith in the mid-1950s as he emerged as an organ player, to avoid confusion with the guitarist John Smith, and the more famous organist Jimmy Smith. This LP was recorded December 29, 1969 at Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, and his band in the studio that day consisted of Virgil Jones on trumpet, Leo Johnson on tenor sax, Wally Richardson on guitar, Rusty Bryant on tenor and alto sax, Jimmy Lewis on electric bass, and Bernard “Pretty” Purdie on drums. Cuts include: Black Feeling; Kindra; Johnny Hammond Boogaloo; Dig On It; When Sunny Gets Blue; and, Soul Talk-1970. Record is in EX condition but cover is in G condition (someone (not me) removed a sticker on the cover and left tears or it would rate much better.) Van Gelder stamped on Runout.
