PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question.   OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week.   Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback.   We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery.   We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. Thank you for your interest and support. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SHIPPING: USA ~ 1 LP $4.00 Media; 2-4 discs $5.00; .50 each additional disc Priority rates vary by area; please inquire.   CANADA ~ 1 LP 8.50; 2 discs $10.00; 3 discs $11.50; over 4 please contact us for shipping costs.   AUSTRALIA, THAILAND, JAPAN ~ 1 LP $18.00; 2 discs $23.00; 3 discs $27.00; 4 discs $32.00. Sweet Smoke were a fairly short lived band from the USA who moved to Germany and easily got swept up in the KRAUTROCK scene, where they found a more receptive audience in Germany and Holland. Sweet Smoke released three albums, "Just a poke" (no explanation is offered for the rather strange title) was their first album, released in 1970.

The albums consists of just two long tracks, each occupying a side of an LP. The first piece, "Baby Night" is the most underground rock orientated number of their entire output, and undoubtedly their best. It is reminiscent at various times of IT'S A BEAUTIFUL DAY's "White bird", with a relaxed West Coast feel, getting into a cool stoned groove. The track features pleasant stereo flute that pans nicely from speaker to speaker and various guitar runs. As the pace develops the track becomes more improvised, and the sound gets rockier, until it is pulled back to the soft West Coast feel. After apparently ending, the main vocal theme returns for a final refrain.

The other track, "Silly sally", leans much more towards complex and jammy. The track starts off almost medieval sounding, with recorder and webs of guitar. Once the vocals kick in, you can tell they sound quite American. Eventually the song turns to electric guitar (without fuzz) and the get to some extended jams. As the jam ends, they go in to an uncredited version of the DOORS' "Soft Parade"...There are echoes of jazz prog- rock while the music is improvised, combining bursts of scat, and dominant winds and heady guitar flashes. Some fine stereo wah wah guitar leads wind into a percussion section. The phasing effects during the drumming enhance the listening pleasure. The track reverts to a more orthodox prog fusion, along the lines of Colloseum or King Crimson.
