I have owned this album from new and it has been one of my most highly treasured albums.As you are probably aware it is Bowie's rarest UK album that very few have ever seen or had a chance to buy. It is of course the super rare 1971 FIRST pressing of the original !!!!! DRESS COVER !!!!! on the UK MERCURY label ''The Man Who Sold THe World'' album.

A short time before this album was released Bowie told the press that he was gay, this statement created a lot of bad publicity not only for himself but also the record Company. When the record was released with Bowie dressd in a womans dress it seemed to confirm to the public all the press hype. As a result the album did not get the recognition it deserved, a year later the album was released with a diffent label and cover, hence the rarity of this outstanding album.

These matrix numbers are stamped into the vinyl and confirms it is an original 1st pressing, there are fakes of this album with hand written matrix numbers and grey Mercury labels. This album also has the correct cloth textured sleeve, the fakes have a different waxy texture. These original Dress Cover sleeves were made without lamination, as a result the spine has various signs of wear, but is still intact. Bearing in mind that this album is now 35 years old the front and back cover are still in excellent to mint condition, there is one small split less than half an inch on the top opening edge, both opening edges are otherwise ok, there is some wear on the top and bottom edges but this doesn't detract from the overall excellent appearance of the front and back covers.

As I have previously mentioned this RARE album was bought new by myself in 1971 and has always been played on either Ortofon or Shure cartridges,apart from today it has not been played for at least 30 years.

The vinyl is in absolute mint to faultless condition, with the same bright pristine vinyl finish as from the very day it was bought, I cannot find either a mark or blemish on either side, and the sound quality is superb. There are a number of spindle marks around the centre hole but that is the only minus point to this first class example of Bowie at his very very best.

You  will not get many opportunities to purchase such a rare masterpiece as this one that is now up for auction. If you have been looking for this album then look no further.
