1971 Finland only issue EMI Odeon E5 062 34306 Heikki Sarmanto Quintet: Counterbalance. This is the great psychedelic/progressive jazz work of this group, mixing the leaders electric piano with the flute of Juhani Altonen & Acoustic Guitar of Lance Gunderson. Their improvisation within tunes written by the band feeds off the folk tinged melodies of their homeland, yet sound edgy and leftfield enough to have been written any time between 1960 and 2011.

Pristine Near Mint surfaces and clean labels, this was in a record shop storage for the past forty years, played a couple of times by me on a high end system only. The owner retired a while back, then after many years told the guy who took over the shop that he had some old stock he could have. I was there the day the boxes were opened, I left with an empty wallet. My list this week is a cherry pick of the best of the jazz, most of it only ever played by me on a good system.

Near Mint record and Near Mint playback, Mint minus sleeve has half a centimetre of print lift to corner only, no other problems. An absolute killer of a date.
