Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. Eighteen months after keyboard virtuoso Rod ARGENT left the famous sixties band The ZOMBIES, their single "Time Of The Season" from their last album "Odyssey & Oracle" topped the US charts and sold one million copies! There was a hugh demand to re-group The ZOMBIES but Rod ARGENT preferred to form his own band to make more progressive music. He recruted bass player John Rodford, drummer Bob Henritt and guitarist Russ Ballard and called the quartet ARGENT. In 1972 their "All Together Now" gained more recognition and the single "Hold Your Head Up" became a smash hit all over the world.
All the hallmarks of Heavy Rock are present on this album - intricate instrumental solos, the weighty (read 'heavy') lyrical themes ("Tragedy"), the complex arrangements, Classically-styled themes ("I Am The Dance Of Ages"), and even Classical compositional structures, exemplified here in "Pure Love", made up of i) Fantasia, ii) Prelude, iii) Pure Love, and iv) Finale (see sidebar). All in all then, this album is an excellent example of what was then a new musical upstart called Rock, embarking upon it's quest to be taken seriously by the musical 'establishment'.
And the music here is indeed rather good, though from the perspective of forty years down the track, it often sounds like Argent might've been emulating what nowadays are their better-remembered peers (though at the time it may've been the other way round of course - their peers emulating Argent's ideas!). But from the vantage point of 2011, Rod Argent's keyboards make one think of Deep Purple, and Russ Ballard's guitar often brings to mind Clapton's work with Cream / Blind Faith.
The result is that Rod Argent's cathedral-like organ / keyboards are right at the front, the percussion is either next to him or close behind, the guitars are somewhere behind the drums (which is what seems to give them that spooky bluesy 'Blind Faith' effect), and the vocals are often right at the very back! - that approach works well with the band's big hit "Hold Your Head Up" (YouTube). To some extent this way of mixing the album may've been intentional - all part of Rock's intrinsic experimental nature at the time perhaps due to the limits of studio technology at the time, where any hope of replicating the majestic ambient width of a cathedral organ was simply out-of the-question in a relatively small recording studio, so the engineer just shoved it right up the front of the mix instead!
CONDITION: A perfect STILL SEALED copy from nearly 40 years ago complete with the original "Hold Your Head UP" sticker on the outer cellophane... no bends, no split seams and no writing, having 4 sharp corners...you can't hope to find a better copy
