Awesomer 1974 Private Press Sizzling Jammer!
THEE ORIGNAL
ELECTROMAGNETICS
USA - EGM RECORDS - SD 1001
The scarce 1974 Original first pressing vinyl...a highly collectible private pressing that features the amazing guitarist Eric Johnson...who drove the legendary MARIANI when he was only 16.
Electromagnets are best known as the launching ground for Eric Johnson, one of the great guitarists. Johnson is known for his clear tones and amazing technical skill -- two things that are apparent on the Electromagnets' first and only album. The group followed the path of such trailblazing fusion groups as the Mahavishnu Orchestra, creating an amalgam of Texas hard-rock with jazzy bluesy overtones and the avant-garde. Unlike many of their peers, the Electromagnets were loose, letting themselves bend the beat into fun listening sounds. As a result, their album is more enjoyable than similar jammers of the type-- Johnson always stands out here with his crystal clear guitar and tasteful solos. His presence makes Electromagnets the curiosity it is, but also makes it more than an odd historical item. Armed witha blue Stratocaster and a groovy pair of off-white bell-bottoms, Eric's playing here is simply incredible.
Featuring keyboardist Steve Barber and bassist Kyle Brock and drummer Bill Maddox,
the Electromagnets are a classic mid 70's sound, replete with fuzzed Fender Rhodes piano riffs, alembic-fueled bass lines, and Eric tearing it up on lead guitar. Picture Return To Forever with Jeff Beck on guitar, and you'll get a good idea where Eric and Co. are coming from at this time. More interestingly, Eric's renowned picking chops were fully formed
at this young age, combing both fast alternate lines and hammer-ons.
His tone is fabulous, too ...
