I’m the original owner of this set, and after nearly four decades, it still displays beautifully. The poster and album cover were signed just one month after the premiere of Star Wars- these are extremely early autographs for any Star Wars collectible.
I acquired the signatures on June 25 of ’77 at Vader’s San Francisco Emporium appearance. I believe this was his first major Northern California appearance after 1977’s American Booksellers Association Convention (also in San Francisco.)
The man behind the mask that day was Kermit Eller-the only man other than Dave Prowse to wear Vader’s suit for many, many months. Amazingly, at this signing and others in those months, he wore one of the film’s original prop costumes-from helmet to boots, this was what we’d experienced on-screen. He was the Vader at the ’78 Oscars, the Vader who put his bootprints in front of the Chinese Theatre, and –somewhat awkwardly- the Vader on the Donnie & Marie show. A good history of those early days can be found here:

Both of the signatures are great- firm, well-placed, and very bold. I purchased the album the week it was issued, so I’m guessing this is the first printing of the poster and the first pressing of the vinyl. The set is complete with the original history/track insert and the original 20th Century sleeves.
The poster really makes for a fantastic display. It has retained great color and crisp graphics, and it has no holes or rips. There are random surface dints and ripples throughout (I’ve never tried pressing these), but I’d say the only real noticeable cosmetic issues are one 1 3/4” surface crease (on the nose of the Y-wing to the left of the Falcon) and a fainter and shorter one about 1” (on the X-wing at upper left.) The signature is strong and very well-placed.
I played both sides of the LPs twice and got no skips. We only have a very old mono portable (with a very old and pathetic speaker) so beyond that, I can’t make any claims as to their fidelity. With that said, a visual inspection revealed some random areas of scuffing and some shallow scratches, but I didn’t find any deep and worrisome scratches. The center labels on both LPs look great.
The signature across Vader on the jacket’s back really looks great. The track insert and 20th Century sleeves are in very nice shape (a few very light creases, but great retention of contrast and graphics.) There is some ring wear to the cover jacket; commensurate with age is discernable surface and edge wear and random surface wrinkles or spine ticks. The jacket’s interior photos remain crisp and bright.
After 38 years, this set makes for a strong and complete display, and those phenomenal early signatures truly elevate it to the class of unique vintage.
Shipping
I would never trust Media Mail with vintage Star Wars, so I’ll absorb a good portion of the shipping cost to send these USPS Priority.
Please see my feedback from previous Star Wars listings for the accuracy of my descriptions and insight into how my packaging respects all things vintage. This set will be extremely well-protected to safeguard its journey to the new owner. Fully insured, shipping is 14.20 for USPS Priority Mail. Sorry, no international buyers.
Collectors:
I'm the original owner of all the Star Wars items I list. Many of these collectibles are similar to those periodically seen at auction, but there are a few pieces which have never found their way onto eBay. Feel free to contact me with any questions on condition or authenticity before purchase.
The Slightly Finer Print
Buyers with zero feedback
If you are new to eBay and have no feedback rating, please do not bid on this item without contacting me first (use the “Ask a question” link at the bottom of this page.) I’m happy to work with new buyers, but I will immediately cancel any suspicious bids which might hurt an honest auction.
Payment
Sorry, but eBay will automatically open an “unpaid item case” for any buyer who has not paid within 48 hours of the auction’s close. To avoid this messy process, please pay upon winning.
Combined shipping
I am happy to combine shipping if you win more than one of my items, but you must contact me before using PayPal’s checkout. In many cases, there should be some savings in shipping I can pass on to you. Please realize that combining orders might require me to repack the items and delay shipping by a day.
Returns
Please note that I cannot consider returns for this item unless I have misrepresented it in my description and photos. Having said that, please contact me if you are in any way dissatisfied upon receiving it- I want both of us to be happy with the exchange. Feedback is the only real measure we have as buyers and sellers, and I strive for nothing less than a 100% positive rating.
