Description
Highly sought-after by serious collectors, this is an early issue "Demonstration - Not For Sale", intended solely for distribution to radio DJ's and journalists, known as a "White Label Promo". The runout - TI AL - 36329 1A (and 1B, 1C and 1D) indicates the first lacquer cut from the master tape - pressed at Columbia Records Terre Haute, Indiana facility in 1980. The gold print inscribed on the back jacket reads "Promotion Only - Ownership reserved by CBS - Sale's Unlawful". The paper inserts with printed song titles and lyrics are still in the package and "Train In Vain" is not listed on the outer jacket. An oddity etched across the four sides of London Calling is the continuous message in the dead wax that says "Tear/ Down/ The/ Walls." Perhaps referring to the late 1970's urban unrest in the UK - or maybe a comment on their rocky relationship with their record label It's a nice package and a great addition to anyone's record collection.
