1981 FIRST EDITION
JAMAICAN NEWSPAPER
BOB MARLEY:
The Ghetto Boy who
became Reggae King
SPECIAL 14 PAGE
LIFE / FUNERAL TRIBUTE
Shortly after Bob Marley's funeral in May of 1981 the fortnightly Jamaican newspaper MERRY-GO-ROUND, 'The Family Fun Magazine', issued this special edition including a FULL COLOR CENTERFOLD POSTER AND COVER OF MARLEY plus another eleven pages on Bob in photos and print (see scans). It measures 12 inches by 15 inches and is 24 pages total. Articles range from the title piece to "A Minstrel Who Sang The Scenes He Lived And Saw", "Those Banned Songs", "Marley's Fame, Influence Reached Deep In Black Communities" to "Tributes In Song And Dance" & "The Funeral Rights", all accompanied by several photos plus fotospreads titled: "The Moods Of Bob Marley", "Mourning A Superstar", "The Strife Is Over...The Battle Won", and more. It's interesting to see articles like "Bob Marley Learned The Message Of Survival From Boyhood" juxtaposed with business adverts suddenly honoring & embracing Bob after his passing. It came out in Jamaica on June 3rd, 1981 since it's numbered "Vol. 3 No. 4 Fortnight ending June 17, 1981. Published every other Thursday. Next issue June 18." Fold-out color poster in center measures 24" by 15". This ORIGINAL Jamaican newspaper MERRY-GO-ROUND; BOB MARLEY: The Ghetto Boy who became Reggae King special edition is in MINT CONDITION. It's never been folded. No tears, no folds, no holes, no fraying anywhere, small black oval on cover, very slight fading (where visible) along edges only (see scans). Published in Jamaica. It would be hard to imagine finding this rarity in better shape than this gem.Go to midnightdread.com to read more about Bob Marley plus an interview with Peter Tosh, & my reggae & other radio shows plus world music and films.
