Al was raised in a love-filled Christian home by parents who served God both day and night. In his early childhood, Al was responsible for winning many souls to Christ. His testimony could be that of the Prodigal Son. For twenty six years, his mother prayed faithfully for the return of her son into God's hands. She submitted her burden for her son's soul to pray- er chains all over the nation and never accepted satan's role in Al's life. After twenty-six years of prayer, through an outstanding chain of events, the Lord brought Al back to the fold. No words can describe what Mom Petty felt the day Al telephoned rejoicing in his return to his precious Saviour. At age nine, Al launched his musical career playing guitar for a Church of God Radio Broadcast on KXYZ in Houston, Texas. By age 13 he was on his way to becoming a great recording musician. For the next few years Al re- mained active in God's work, while pursuing his chosen profession. . . . music. He was recognized as one of the leading steel guitarist at the age of twenty-one. At age twenty-one he moved to California. In California, Al began to drift away from God as he undertook his quest for personal fame. During the next twenty-six years, he earned recognition as a top vocal entertainer and accomplished musician in Hollywood, Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe, as well as other parts of this country and overseas. He has per- formed and recorded with major artists that include Glen Campbell, Elvis Presley's guitar player - James Burton, famous country talents Hank Williams, Sr., Jim Reeves, and many others. In Los Angeles, Al's popular television show aired for ten years. His songs became hits on West Coast Charts. He has appeared and had television programs all over the United States. A! attained much worldly success, but very little peace of mind. "For just as the wages of sin is death . . ." Romans 6:23, Al paid the price for living outside of God's plan. He had a disrupted personal life with many bitter disappointments. He describes it as going through the 'Fiery' Furnace. The first of these was a marital problem. Then a long battel with drugs complicated by professional treatment received from doctors, a hypnotist, and a psychiatrists. Al's first alcoholic drink at age 38 lead to alcoholic addiction. It lasted nine years and was miraculously lifted by God's healing power. Al's Christian Band, "New Life Blessing" is touring across the natiom presenting Gospel Concerts. They are ministering to audiences from all walks of life with their unique musical message coupled with the exhilarating testi- mony of their leader, Al Petty. Al is very successful in the recording industry producing singles, albums, and musical commercials in his "Love Recorded Sound Studios." Al's modern facilities coupled with his expertise as a producer, arranger, and musician enables him to get a superior sound. It is Al's persona! prayer that his recording knowledge and studio be of benefit to churches and Christian artists. Al is anxious to use the God given talent he has misused in wordly music. Al says, "I want to do everything possible to make up for lost time." He has a very special burden for lost souls. This story could not be complete without the acknowledgement of Rev- erend Jerry Phelps and Pastor Ralph R. Volpe. They were steadfast in their personal commitment to see Al through his physical, emotional and spiritual transformation. Al Petty, "A New Creature in Jesus Christ," is eternally grateful to both of them.
