Lies Original Sleeve
I collected vinyl / picture discs for most of my teenage years and twenties. I was always very critical of the condition of them when purchased and have done my upmost to keep them in the same condition. Only a very few general albums were ever played the others were just purchased for the collection, now it is time for someone else to treasure these items so grab yourself a piece of Rock/Pop history.
Guns N' Roses Lies original 1988 12" Vinyl Album, with the original album sleeve. I purchased this record brand new and have never played it, it is in excellent condition. The outer sleeve has some very minor creases to the edges, but in my opinion these are not really noticeable, and has a cut out in the bottom corner (done before purchase a note about this below). The inner sleeve continues the tabloid look of the outer sleeve with a censored picture of a nude model, the other side has an old picture of Guns N' Roses.
When LPs were the primary medium for the commercial distribution of sound recordings, manufacturers would physically cut the corner, punch a hole, or add a notch to the spine of the jacket of unsold records returned from retailers; these "cut-outs" might then be re-sold to record retailers or other sales outlets for sale at a discounted price. Cut-outs are typically wholesaled to retailers as non-returnable items, meaning that the store cannot send them back to the distributor for a refund; the reason for the cut or hole in the packaging is to mark the item as non-returnable. The marking also serves to prevent the retailer from selling the discounted item at full price.
The cover is a parody of tabloid newspapers, as are the liner notes. The album's cover art underwent several minor modifications when the title was released on CD. First, in the bottom left corner reading "LIES LIES LIES" originally read "Wife-beating has been around for 10,000 years." Secondly, instead of "Elephant gives birth to midget", the original headline reads, "Ladies, welcome to the dark ages." Many copies of the original LP release also contained an uncensored picture of a nude model on the inner LP sleeve.
