Track A (1812 Original Scoring - Stereo): The music was recorded in Northrop Memorial Auditorium on April 5, 1958. The cannon, courtesy of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, used in this recording was a 12 pound bronze siege cannon made at Douay, France on June 20, 1775 - No. 87 bearing the inscription "Le Constant" or "The Faithful". The full range of 74 bells are from the Laura Spelman Rockefeller Memorial Carillon, The Riverside Church, and were recorded using 3 microphones for 3 channel stereo.
Track C (1812 Original Scoring - Mono): The music was recorded in Northrop Memorial Auditorium on December 4, 1954. The cannon, courtesy of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, used in this recording was a 6 pound bronze muzzle loader made at Strasbourg, France in 1761. Six shots were fired on January 20, 1955 with the next-to-last shot used. The tape recording of the bells of the Harkness Memorial Tower, Yale University, New Haven, Conn. was copied at twice the speed to give the effect of rapidly ringing small bells and combined with the original tape.
