This is a lot consisting of TWO FILLER GRADE ORIGINAL YELLOW LABEL 1963 AND 1964 U.S. PHILLES RECORDS LPs - Details are as follows:
1) PRESENTING THE FABULOUS RONETTES - Philles PHLP-4006 - 1964 - Yellow label deep groove pressing - Visually this record is in POOR FILLER GRADE CONDITION, with many surface marks which cannot be felt and a few surface scratches which can be felt and which will cause skips and ticks, and also with scattered groove damage which will cause some scattered hissing in a few places. Most of this record actually plays better than it looks, but overall it's too far gone to grade it anything but POOR / FILLER. It's a real shame that someone would treat an all-time classic like this so poorly, but at this point it is what it is. Cover actually grades better than the record at about VG, with a few small splits which I have repaired by taping from the inside, some light staining, ring and contact wear, and a fair amount of wear and flaking along the edges and on the corners.
2) A CHRISTMAS GIFT FOR YOU - Philles PHLP-4005 - 1963 - Yellow label deep groove pressing - This record grades better than the Ronettes record at about a VG-/VG, with the main flaw being one prominent surface scratch which extends across three tracks and will cause prominent ticks; this record actually would grade at a high VG+ without this one bad scratch and will play through very nicely except over the three affected tracks. Record also has a moderate amount of surface marks which cannot be felt and will not affect play. Cover is not bad at a low VG+ with a little bit of writing on the back cover, some ring and contact wear, and some wear and a little flaking along the edges and on the corners.
The term 'suitable for framing' comes to mind, as that would be a good use for the LPs in this lot, or they can be used as inexpensive filler in your Phil Spector LP collection until better copies come along. Another possible reason for purchasing these two LPs would be if you already have good records but totally beat up covers or no covers at all and you need to upgrade or replace your album covers. I have priced this lot very modestly according to the low condition grades, I will leave it to the bidders to determine its actual value. Please contact me with any specific questions.
