2 Unity Flexodisc 4 1/2 inch discs from 1925 and 1926. Orig. sleeves Very scarce.
Produced by the Warner Record Company (New Flexo) for the Unity School of Christianity, in Kansas City, MO. Few of these discs have survived in playable condition as they were pressed in flexible plastic, and were easily destroyed by steel needles and 150 gram tracking weight of then current tone arms. The case indeed does state to use only new Steel Needles, but what else was there back then? The only alternative was cactus, which would have been easier on the discs. Shellac discs had an abrasive material mixed into the shellac. The concept was to wear out the (cheap) needle before wearing out the (expensive) record, hence the admonishment to use a new needle for each side of the record. These flex records were softer, and thus did not wear out the needles so quickly, but given the tracking weights of the time, they still wore out pretty quickly. Both these records, although showing some wear, do play through. One of the sleeves has the original insert, for the 1925 issue.
