2nd TIME AROUND by TRANSITION - Very Rare 1971 LP Psychedelic Rock Folk Blues NM

Exceedingly rare LP “2nd Time Around by Transition”, released in 1970 or 1971 by MC3, presumably a private record label.  The music is a mix of rock, psychedelic rock, folk, and blues.  I sample played each song on the record and in my opinion this is definitely a very good and interesting album to listen to.  It features various singers and musicians and was a college student project from Maury Dean’s Modern Music Workshop 295 class at Monroe Community College in Monroe, Michigan (as detailed on the back of the cover).  Bob Balidori, of the Lansing, Michigan based group “The Woolies”, was a producer for the LP.  The album was recorded at Lansing Sound Studios.  It appears the songs are originals with the exception of That’ll Be the Day and Loch Lomond.  The album covers were essentially handmade with the front lettering spray painted on using stencil and thus each one has different coloring.  The back cover has a photocopied page of information and pictures glued on.  The LP was issued in extremely low numbers as I gather from the internet.  The record label and the etchings in the runout area read MC-7114 (Side-1) and MC-7115 (Side-2).  The song comments below, in brackets, were taken from the internet and are credited to “The Acid Archives” book.

1. That’ll Be the Day (Buddy Holly, N Petty, J. Allison) [with good thumping bass line]

2. Strawberry Days (E. Oetjens, M. Dean) [a hippie goddess folk rocker with angelic dual female vocals and a heavy electric guitar rhythm]

3. Right On (Fred Peacock) [a psychy folk rocker which has the sound of a teenage Bob Edmund, complete with garagy organ/drum backing]

4. KS Rebellion (Fred Peacock)

5. Go Along with the Game (John Diehl) [a rocker with a slightly funky rhythm guitar and bass line, a secondary trumpet melody and a Lee Oskar War-like harmonica solo]

Side-2

1. Smile at the Sun (Julie Tkach) [with a mellow Annie Haslam style vocal and jazz-tinged electric keyboard backing, a bit reminiscent of early Steely Dan - think “Do It Again”]

2. John’s Other Song (John Diehl)

3. Loch Lomond (Public Domain) [sung with a bad faux-Scottish burr but with a good rocking mandolin/trumpet/heavy bass/ drums backing]

4. Vida Blues (M. Vida, M. Clark, C. Miller, P. Dobson) [a thumping bass blues jam with cool Dixieland style trumpet leads and a wailing harmonica solo or two]

Condition: The LP itself is in Near Mint condition.  The vinyl record is shinny and has perhaps just one or two very superficial scratches on each side that you have to look for closely to even see.  I’ve sampled part each song on a high-quality turntable and there is barely any surface noise.  It essentially plays like a new record.  The record turns flat on the turntable, thus it’s not warped.  The cover is in Excellent condition with very minimal surface wear and no splits to the edges.  The info sheet pasted on the back cover is fully intact.  The original plain white inner sleeve is in Excellent condition without any tears or splits around the edges.
