Description
DESCRIPTION: You are bidding on three vintage USA Soul/R&B 45s by Harold Burrage released in the 1960s on the M-Pac label (a production of the aptly named One-Derful label out of Chicago). The titles are:
1) Things Ain't What They Used To Be (Since You've Been Gone)/You Make Me So Happy
2) Master Key/Faith
3) Baby I'm Alright/Fifty-Fifty
Hal is definitely underknown, but soul freaks don't need to be told that these are three double-sided killers. I'll spare you my usual effusions. Let's just say the ghost of Roger Eagle is smiling aprovingly over this auction from the twisted wheel in the sky, whilst that of Dave Godin is purpling up some paeanic prose that I wouldn't dare discredit.
GRADING DETAILS: First off, I always play grade if its not clearly minty. Great news here! These are all in excellent shape. #1 plays EX or VG++ on both sides, which is great because its probably my favorite of the bunch. Outstanding! The other two are a notch below that one, but still pretty fantastic. A little light surface noise on #3 that doesn't overpower anything, and a few minor clicks on #2 that also aren't too troublesome. I've always felt the Goldmine standard doesn't really apply that well to 45s, [while the 78 scale is too esoteric (and not strict enough, frankly) for 45s], but if pressured I would put these on the borderline of VG+/VG, leaning definitely to the former. While an upgrade for these two is possible, in my opinion they're still the goods. #2 and #3 have drill holes thru the label, otherwise clean. #1 has a name written on either side of the label (which is probably a wise thing to do, because this would be a star at any record bash, and you wouldn't want some joker to write HER name on it while your back was turned). I'm a super strick grader (with none of this trickery I see sometimes online where a VG+ is actually a VG-), but don't take just my word for it. Point your browser to the link below to hear an untouched audio sample of all six sides. (VBR 192 Mp3) You get a little under a minute for each side (the whole thing is 5 minutes long), and I promise you there are no major problems that occur after I fade each track. WYHIWYG. In conclusion, I don't think it would be too easy to sonically upgrade #1, and the other two are in totally collectible and spinnable shape with no cringe inducing clicks or overpowering noise. All in all this is a one of a kind chance to go big up on Harold Burrage that I'm happy to provide for soul fans across the world
