Description

33CX 1286 Sonatas for Unaccompanied Violin No. 1, in G minor, No.2 in B minor (Partita No.1) Johanna Martzy

Cover: Very Good Plus Plus (Some signs of wear and age, a small mark where a label has been removed, but generally a very presentable copy.)

Condition: Very Good Plus (a light crackle and the odd repeated tick here and there, but nothing intrusive enough to mar one's enjoyment of the performance or the sound. A copy with which one could certainly live.)

Among the rarest and most expensive mono Columbias, the Martzy Bach Sonatas are only eclipsed by the Enescu recordings in terms of rarity and value. Equipped with exquisite tone, faultless technique and great muscianship there is absolutely no sense of strain in Martzy's classic accounts of these unforgiving pieces. There are other accounts that I think dig deeper emotionally and spiritually, but none that are more polished violinistically. Awesome, and all the more unforgiveable that her recordings were to languish in neglect for nearly a half century until various forces combined to give her her true, belated, recognition. One of the great records, documenting a great artist at the height of her powers.

All records are guaranteed against audible faults (unless described) on a refund/replace basis, if notified within 14 days of receipt.
